Operation Full Send: 2022 Supercross Season

The 2022 Monster Energy Supercross season has reached full throttle, and we break down how some of the greatest riders are getting into the racing mindset this season.

Entering the arena for a Supercross race can be an exhilarating experience. Athletes are pushed to the brink but continue to enter the ring for the adrenaline rush. There is no roll cage to protect these athletes; they're open and free with the dirt flying in the air. Over twenty athletes are on the line in a single race; some describe it as a scene from the Roman Collesium. Gladiators are going head-to-head for the win. All the practice and training led to these five months of racing for the championship. 

Riders facing off 

Riders such as Jason Anderson, Malcom Stewert, and Eli Tomac will be seen in the 450 SX class - taking more challenging corners and higher jumps. At the same time, rider Jett Lawrence eyes up the 250 SX championship this year.  

Jett and his brother Hunter broke onto the Supercross scene in 2020, but a broken collarbone held him back from finishing out all the races in the season. All the more reason not to let the pressure faze him this year. 

"Trying to go faster than anyone else on the track, and it ends up catching me. The more mature side needs realize I'm fine. I definitely, at times, get a little carried away because I want to be the best at what I do. Sometimes it definitely bites me, but sometimes it pays off," Lawrence stated in a recent NBC Motorsports interview.

450 SX Rider, Ken Roczen, knows the same feeling and suffered a similar fate in 2021 after catching his foot in rider Coty Schock's rear wheel.

Roczen said, "I just want to go from race to race and be on the podium all the time," he looks ahead to the 2022 season with a new team manager and attitude.

This week, rider Eli Tomac won his fourth consecutive Monster Energy Supercross race in Indianapolis! It took Tomac 20 laps, but he was able to pass legendary racer Justin Barcia. Tomac now has a 51-point advantage on the field.
