Dressed to Play: Basketball

There are not many mandatory articles of clothing for the sport of basketball. Most children will want to wear clothing that's easy to move around and run in, such as athletic shorts and a T-shirt, avoiding anything heavy or baggy.

Arm Sleeve/Shooting Sleeve

An accessory that players wear on their shooting arm. it is designed to help keep the elbow straight while shooting the ball.

Basketball

A specialized ball for the sport, most people enjoy having their own basketballs to practice with outside of organized activities.

Basketball Shoes

Specialized shoes that help get a better grip on the floor while also providing extra support for their ankles. Regular tennis shoes should also work for those just starting out. 

Dribbling Goggles

A recommended tool for beginners to help them learn to dribble without staring at the ball. 

Gym Bag

Used to keep all your belongings together.

Headband

These are pieces of fabric that stretch around a player's forehead. It is used to help keep sweat out of a player's eyes while they are playing.

Jerseys

Jerseys will vary from team to team, but they are usually sleeveless to make them less restrictive while shooting the ball.

Mouth Guard

Players will use mouth guards to help minimize injuries to the mouth and surrounding areas.

Water Bottle

Basketball can be a high-intensity sport and it is important to stay hydrated. 

Wristband

These are pieces of fabric that stretch around a player's wrist. It is used to keep sweat off their hands while they are handling the ball.
