The Situation

A ground ball is hit to the first baseman and the pitcher is covering.

The Call

  1. Legal play. The pitcher is in the acto of making a play on the B-R
  2. Obstruction. The pitcher is impeding the progress of the B-R
  3. Since no contact occurred, obstruction cannot be legally called.
