A basketball player and motocross racer as a kid, Herrin began playing competitive volleyball after he moved to Austin in 2001. Herrin’s wife, Emily, is also a volleyball fanatic. She handles some of the finances and accounting duties for Austin Performance Volleyball, which has about 400 girls’ players ranging in age from 10 to 18. Emily is also the club’s tournament director. The Herrins have a 2-year-old son, Cameron. WHAT HE DOES: Herrin, who coaches APV’s top 16-under team (the Gazelles), oversaw the creation of the organization’s new Sport Ngin site this spring. He organized the content, creating multiple new sections and pages. The site’s Recruiting section includes pages for Unsigned Players, Alumni and Current Commitments. The Training section includes an AP Youth Program page featuring an outstanding video that discusses the club’s philosophies and shows how it trains its players. The Tryouts page also includes an outstanding video that gives an overview of the club. Herrin built a Coaches page using tabs to help organize and streamline the content. MAKING HIS MARK: Herrin’s considerable skills as a graphic designer can be seen in images throughout the site, including the Mardi Gras-themed graphic that accompanies a short article listing the six APV teams that qualified for a national championship event in New Orleans.
