Elk River Youth Hockey webmaster Bobbi Kotzian completes major projects

Webmaster of the Week: June 13-19

Name:
Bobbi Kotzian

Site:
Elk River Youth Hockey

Position:
Secretary, Webmaster

Use of platform:
Registration, Sitebuilder, Tourney, Dibs

Background:
Kotzian, who along with husband Jeb has three boys and a girl (all hockey players) ranging in age from 8 to 21, previously worked for the blue line club’s boys’ high school hockey site but switched to volunteering for the youth hockey association just more than a year ago. An Elk River native and Minnesota State-Mankato graduate, Kotzian is a nurse with no formal technology, design or programming background. “I just know I like when I go to websites that are clean,” she said. “I don’t like them to be too busy.”

What she does:
Kotzian inherited a site with outstanding content, structure and design thanks mostly to the work of former webmaster Ryan Oliveira. Still, she’s completed multiple major projects in the past year, not the least of which was spearheading the migration to a mobile responsive theme. “That was making me nuts, that we didn’t have (the site on a responsive template),” Kotzian said. She’s made generous use of the mobile friendly Call to Action page element on the site’s home page, where she’s also added multiple photo galleries.

Making her mark:
Kotzian showed her deep appreciation for the association’s history – and her investigative skills – by tracking down vintage photos, logos and other memorabilia and showcasing them in the site’s new Alumni section. The timing of Kotzian’s project coincides with the 50-year anniversary of Elk River hockey. It also comes as  Elk River native Paul Martin plays in the Stanley Cup Finals as a member of the San Jose Sharks. Martin, naturally, is featured prominently in the Alumni section.
