Great Shooting Takes Hard Work and Repetition

It takes many years to become a truly effective shooter against good defense. Even NBA players who spend hours and hours each day on their jump shots often struggle to convert on scoring opportunities with a hand in their face.

Some of the best shooters in the pros, such as Steph Curry, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Durant, were undoubtedly blessed with tremendous genetics that have helped them reach such a high level of proficiency. However, these players also got to this point by repeating the action in practice with a shooting gun or a rebounder.

Coaches can use team websites to teach their young athletes about the importance of practice in regards to shooting. Repetition is of the utmost importance so that a player is familiar with just about every shot in the book. Great shooting doesn’t happen overnight. It requires hard work and determination. Sports team websites can help get that point across.

Kansas tops Iowa State with hot shooting

In recent years, the Kansas Jayhawks have been known more for their defensive prowess than their offense. However, in their victory on Monday night against Iowa State, the Jayhawks shot the ball well enough to trump the skilled opposition, according to Iowa State Daily.

Guard Wayne Selden Jr. scored 19 points in the second half, led by converting five of six 3-point shots during the frame. Guard Brannen Greene also shot the ball extremely well, continuing his recent hot streak from the field.

“When they are shooting the ball like that, they are really tough to guard,” forward Georges Niang told the news outlet. “Greene is on a hot streak right now and he was really shooting it. When he made those tough 3s, it was tough to get going after that.”

Louisville’s shooting keys victory over Pitt

Louisville is another team that usually relies on grinding defense en route to success against some of the top competition in the country. Yet in a recent victory against Pittsburgh, the team shot a season-high 65 percent from the field. Guard Terry Rozier led the way with 26 points and forward Montrezl Harrell chipped in with 18 points of his own.

“We usually win with defense and tonight we won with offense,” Pitino told the news outlet. “Our offense was special and great shooting percentages are the result of great passing and we did a terrific job passing against a good defensive team.”
