Tiger Woods defeated Trip Kuehne to win his first U.S. Golf Amateur Championship at the TPC at Sawgrass in Verda Beach, Florida, on Aug. 28, 1994. At the time, Woods was the youngest U.S. Amateur champion at 18 years, 7 months, 29 days.

Woods struggled early in the 36-hole match. He was 6-down after 13 holes and 5-down after 24 holes but rallied to take the title 2-up. Woods said that it was the first time he’d recorded a victory after trailing by such a margin — a feat that had never been accomplished during the U.S. Golf Amateur Championship’s history.

Woods also won the next two U.S. Golf Amateur Championships (1995, 1996). He is tied with Walter Travis (1900, 1901, 1903) for the third-most victories behind Robert Jones Jr. (5 — 1924, 1925, 1927, 1928, 1930) and Jerome D. Travers (4 — 1907, 1908, 1912, 1913) at the event, but he holds the record for most consecutive victories.
