High School Football: Nantucket Enjoys City Life

"We were talking before the game about how it's an opportunity for a lifetime. It will never happen again. So that really got us hyped up for the game.”

As their ferry departed for the Cape, Nantucket junior Devonte Usher was already motivated. As were most of his teammates, most of whom had been clamoring for a chance to face a team like Boston Latin.

But none of them truly knew what else would be waiting for them as their bus pulled into West Roxbury High School for a neutral site tilt. In addition to a sea of fans draped in purple sat a bus, and a well-known one at that.

As the New England Patriots prepared for a battle with Kansas City that weekend, the NBC Sunday Night Football Bus was on hand, and Whalers coach Joe Perry had kept it a secret from his players nearly the entire week.
