BACKGROUND:
The Rescigno family bloodlines run rich with football -- Ian’s father, Ron, is a longtime high school football coach (tight ends coach at Westlake High School north of Los Angeles) and brother, Eric, also coaches at the high school level in the Los Angeles area (freshman head coach at Mater Dei). Ian, a defensive back at UCLA in the 1980s, also has a deep education background, serving as CEO of Learning Priority, a classroom fluency training tool that helps teachers monitor students’ reading progress.

WHAT HE DOES:
Rescigno, who lives north of Los Angeles in Thousand Oaks, Calif., began managing the ever-expanding Under the Lights flag football leagues in January. Ten states and one Canadian province have at least one league, with more regularly coming on board. The Under the Lights league is for boys and girls in kindergarten through the eighth grade. “I think it is a phenomenon,” Rescigno said about the growing popularity of flag football. “And I think the phenomenon starts in Orange County.”  California has 13 league locations, the most of any state. Rescigno has set up a league landing page for each location throughout the country. Those pages typically include a welcome message, registration link, photo and contact information for the league commissioner. There’s also a video clip that shows the Tampa-based league in action.
