Webmaster Steve Fiorindo uses Stylized Survey Reports to build pages loaded with videos, bio info

Spring is the busiest of times for Steve Fiorindo, whose baseball geography acumen is such that he could likely don a blindfold and still motor his way to and from Southern California’s vast array of high school and college ballparks unscathed.

Today a doubleheader in Huntington Beach, tomorrow a trio of games in San Dimas, Ontario and Ranch Cucamonga (no GPS required!).

Any player considered a candidate to be selected in Major League Baseball’s annual June draft is locked onto Fiorindo’s radar. That means Fiorindo, who runs the scouting and recruiting website The Prospect Pipeline, has likely compiled reams of statistical charts and dozens of video clips.

“This is a hotbed for high school guys,” said Fiorindo, who is based east of Los Angeles in suburban Upland, Calif. “If I’m not at a high school game I’m probably at a college game. I also have credentials to four minor league teams. There’s plenty of stuff to keep me busy.”

Fiorindo launched The Prospect Pipeline in mid-March. Custom player profile pages, using Sport Ngin’s new stylized survey reports, are the foundation of his site. He has about 50 profiles on the site spanning the 2015 through 2017 high school graduation years.

Each profile page includes basic information such as position, height, weight and college commitment. The template for the player profile page is also set up with areas for notes, a player card and a news/video article aggregator. Tabs at the bottom of the page show videos of the player in action.

“This has been kind of a test run for next year,” said Fiorindo, who has a registration set up that allows players to submit bio information and photos. “If he is a legit player, I can forward that info to scouts and the scouting bureau.”

Fiorindo's range isn't limited to Southern California. Once the high school and college seasons ends, his scouting expands to a national scope. He typically attends summer all-star events in Florida and North Carolina, and he has strong ties to programs in Puerto Rico.
