This Women’s History Month, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible female role models who are part of the Strong Girls United (SGU) community. At SGU, mentorship is at the core of everything we do. We believe that strong female role models can inspire and empower girls to not only get involved in sports but to stay involved, building confidence and resilience that lasts a lifetime.

Why Does Mentorship Matter?

Studies show that having female role models and mentors in sports has a profound impact on young girls. Yet, 77% of girls reported that a lack of female coaches contributed to their decision to stop playing sports. By increasing access to inspiring mentors, we aim to reverse this trend and foster a supportive environment for girls to thrive in sports and beyond.

Looking for inspiration? Listen to the pros share their stories of triumph, resilience, and empowerment on the Strong Girls Pod. Now available on our SportsEngine Play Channel! our list of remarkable quests include:

  • Kikkan Randall – Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing
  • Phylicia George – Canadian Olympian in track and field and bobsled
  • Victoria Arlen – Paralympic champion and ESPN personality
  • Ally Hamel – USA Field Hockey Olympian
  • Lexie Hull – WNBA player for the Indiana Fever
  • Devon Newberry – NCAA volleyball standout and champion
  • Cameron Brink – WNBA star and two-time NCAA champion
  • Kristen Faulkner – USA 2x gold medalist in Paris 2024 for road racing and indoor cycling

These women exemplify the power of mentorship and the impact of perseverance in achieving dreams.
